Through my role as Youth Programme Co-ordinator at b-side CIC I am running an 'emerging' producer programme for under 25s (or thereabouts) called the [intransit] Producer Programme.
For each b-side festival we launch a Young Producer Group to host their own event at the festival. This festival, we are doing things a little bit differently - the group will produce and programme their own festival (within the b-side festival) a festival strand, if you like. The [intransit] Producer Programme is there primarily to train under 25s in the art of events production as well as helping them to develop skills they already have. In our current cohort we have a group of 5 producers from varying different stages and perspectives in their producing career. However, they all have one common interest: Children's Rights.
The festival strand the producers are working on will be called the WHY? Festival. The WHY? Festival stands for What’s Happening for the Young? And is a festival that was launched in 2014 by the Southbank Centre. For any of you that have followed me - you will see that in August 2017 I went on residency programme with the Southbank Centre as a WHY? Young Activist - and that's how I have got involved. The festival itself is always produced by young people’s thoughts and voices as well as always being based around the UN Conventions on the rights of the child.
To find out what we got up to in our first session (and to find out a little bit more about the [intransit] Producers, click here. We will be posting blogs about our sessions so keep your eyes peeled!
